Youth Today and KP Catalysts

The New Publishers

For more than 35 years, Youth Today has published in-depth reporting on issues affecting youth, including foster care and child welfare, juvenile justice, youth with disabilities, education, out-of-school time, positive youth development and more.

In 2012, Youth Today was acquired by the Center for Sustainable Journalism at Kennesaw State University (KSU). During its time at KSU, Youth Today has continued to serve as the go-to publication for the youth development field, transitioning from a print to online publication and strengthening its commitment to high-quality journalistic integrity.

After 12 years with KSU, it is time for Youth Today to enter its next era, housed within an organization that has deep knowledge of and connections to the allied youth fields. We are pleased to announce that Youth Today is now published by Knowledge to Power Catalysts (KP Catalysts).

KP Catalysts offers a wide range of services to accelerate change through amplifying ideas, advising initiatives, and aligning partners with a particular focus on bringing together leaders from education, youth development, and the opportunity youth fields.

Karen Pittman, a founding partner of KP Catalysts, was one of the original opinion columnists for Youth Today and also served on its board for many years. Three years ago, she reached out to Youth Today to offer to further strengthen its network of advisors and contributors. Karen and the full KP Catalysts team firmly believe Youth Today is the perfect addition to their organization’s suite of initiatives and resources.

“I grew up in the youth development field as an avid reader of Youth Today. I remember the excitement each month of the print publication arriving and of the discussions we would have as a team about the news and opinions contained in each issue. It is my hope that KP Catalysts can ensure Youth Today serves that same role for the next generation of youth workers,” said Katherine Plog Martinez, KP Catalysts’ managing partner.

Merita Irby, who leads KP Catalysts’ partnership alignment efforts, said of the transition, “As we work alongside our partners to ensure a commitment to centering youth thriving and fostering learning ecosystems, I can’t think of a better platform for sparking discussion and engagement than Youth Today. I believe its importance and reach will only grow.”

Subscribers and readers will continue to see the features they love, such as grant reports, alongside exciting new content written not just for but by the field. In the coming months we will be resuming and expanding guest opinion pieces, growing our reports section, and launching a new feature – deep dives into the learning ecosystems in individual communities.
